Open House

We went to our son's open house at their high school. It was well-organized. We each had a list of classes to visit at specific times and we got to meet all of their teachers. They both have the same history teacher. My youngest son has him first period and my oldest has him last period. My wife went to my youngest son's classes and I went to my oldest son's classes. We only saw each other once the whole night. They both have a class right across the hall from each other one period. I got to see the basement of the school where my oldest son takes driver's education. I had never been down there. The weight room and locker rooms are all down there. My oldest son does a lot of walking up and down the stairs. I got a great work-out trying to find his classes. He has some great teachers. His Spanish teacher was his freshman football coach and he has the same math teacher as last year. A couple of his classes looked really interesting and made me want to be back in school. The night flew by. It was over at 9:30 p.m.

First Game

My youngest son played his first high school football game at home against Lyons Township High School. Their bus arrived late so there was a lot of waiting around. He played the whole game on offense at center and did a great job. I saw him knock the guy he was blocking to the ground a couple of times. The game ended around 8:00 p.m. and we got home about 8:30 p.m.

It turned out to be a nice day after all the rain we had. We saw a lot of branches down in Lombard. We usually have some kind of reunion picnic every year. In a couple of years we hope to have it in North Carolina again.

Meatballs

I watched the DVD "Meatballs." I'm not sure if I ever saw it. It came out in 1979 and was Bill Murray's first movie.

Synopsis

Set at a low-end summer camp and aimed squarely at a teen audience, Meatballs is a light screwball comedy that turned its low-budget Canadian roots into a very profitable box-office run. The biggest reason for the film's success is Bill Murray who stars as Tripper, the head counselor who runs things at Camp Northstar with the help of his love interest Roxanne (Kate Lynch) and the camp's director Morty (Harvey Atkins), who is affectionately known as Mickey. Camp opens with Tripper and Morty preparing the misfit counselors-in-training - Spaz, Fink, Crockett, A.L., Candace, Wendy, and Wheels among them - for the arrival of their hyperactive little charges. After settling in, kids and counselors begin their activities with a soccer game in which depressed 11-year-old Rudy (Chris Makepeace) accidentally loses the game. Cast out by the other children, Rudy runs away only to come across Tripper, who befriends the boy and makes him his running partner. Romance, sexy fun, and comic hijinx - usually with the heavy-sleeping Morty as their target - lead up to an annual Olympiad in which Camp Northstar battles the wealthier and athletically superior residents of Camp Mohawk. The challenging events include cup stacking, potato-sack racing, and a nauseating hot dog-eating contest in which the portly Fink devours his way to victory. With the two-day event tied up, it comes down to the cross-country run, in which Tripper enters Rudy.

Scrimmage

My youngest son had his first scrimmage on the main field and then they had a barbecue for the players and parents afterwards. He played both ways at defensive guard and offensive guard the whole first half and center the second half. I saw him make four tackles. It was a beautiful night and I'm getting excited for the season.

REO Speedwagon Soundstage Show

Congratulations!

You have been awarded two seats at the REO Speedwagon Soundstage show! Attached is the audience tip sheet for the taping, please arrive at the studios between 6:30pm and 7:30pm. Thanks, we will see you at the show!

Soundstage

On Tuesday we found out we won two passes from WDRV "The Drive" radio station to the taping of REO Speedwagon's Sound Stage show. Wednesday afternoon we left home about 4:30 pm and arrived at the studio about 5:50 pm. We stopped at a Subway for some sandwiches before we got there. They had us wait outside until 6:30 pm and then let us into the studios to be seated. It's a big room with lots of equipment. They said they use 11 cameras when taping. We sat about ten feet from the stage. Steve Downes from WDRV introduced the band and gave us instructions. Because the audience was so small we had to make a lot of noise and we stood the whole concert. It was an incredible experience. Very intimate like your own private concert. The sound was excellent and it was fun watching the audience and the band play to the cameras. They played all the favorites and Kevin Cronin even did a solo at the end. They finished just after 10:00 pm, a little over two hours. On the way out the security guard gave us an all-access pass, a nice souvenir. Outside they gave away free vitamin water after the show. We left the WTTW Studios at about 10:15 pm and made it home in great time about 50 minutes. It was a very wonderful and memorable evening. They said the show will be broadcast in January or February after all the editing.

Entourage - The First Season

I finished watching "Entourage - The Frist Season" - excellent show.

Synopsis'

Entourage, the hit comedy series executive produced by Mark Wahlberg that takes a look at the day-to-day life of Vincent (Vince) Chase, a hot young actor in modern-day Hollywood, and his entourage. He's brought with him from their hometown in Queens, NY: manager Eric, half-brother Drama, and friend Turtle. The series draws on the experiences of industry insiders to illustrate both the heady excesses of today's celebrity lifestyle, as well as the difficulty of finding love and success in the fast track of show biz. Now that the boys are getting used to the perks of stardom, Eric, along with superagent Ari, keep Vince's star rising while making sound decisions for a long-lasting career in a world of fleeting fame. Adrian Grenier ("Drive Me Crazy," "Hart's War") stars as Vince. Kevin Connolly ("Antwone Fisher," "John Q") plays Eric, Vince's closest confidant who's learning the rules of the business as he tries to help Vince make the right choices and keep his trajectory aimed high. Kevin Dillon ("The Doors," "Platoon") plays Vince's half-brother Drama, whose own acting aspirations have been eclipsed by Vince's success. Jerry Ferrara ("Grounded for Life," "Leap of Faith") plays Turtle, the house manager, who's always up for a good time. Jeremy Piven ("Old School," "The Larry Sanders Show") plays Ari, Vince's aggressive, high-powered agent, who clashes with Eric over his client's decisions. Also appearing in ENTOURAGE are Debi Mazar ("Goodfellas," "The Tuxedo") as Vince's publicist Shauna and Rex Lee as Lloyd, Ari Gold's much-maligned assistant.

The Two Minute Rule

I finished reading "The Two Minute Rule" by Robert Crais.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Ask anyone on the wrong side of the law about the two minute rule and they’ll tell you that’s as long as you can hope for at a robbery before the cops show up. Break the two minute rule and it’s a lifetime in jail. But not everyone plays by the rules…When ex-con Max Holman finally gets out of jail, freedom doesn’t taste too sweet. The only thing on his mind is reconciliation with his estranged son, who is, ironically, a cop. But then he hears the devastating news: His son and three other Los Angeles police officers were gunned down in cold blood the night before Holman’s release. When the hit is exposed as a revenge killing and the question of police corruption is raised, it becomes a father’s last duty to clear his son’s name and catch the killer. The Two Minute Rule is gripping, edgy suspense from the author who sets the standard when it comes to surprising plot twists and powerful characters.
