Cross Country Banquet

We went to my oldest son's cross country award's banquet at McDonald's Lodge in Oak Brook. He received his varsity letter. It was a very nice dinner and they had a slide presentation of their season by one of the runner's. It was very good. His team had an excellent season.

Sectionals

My oldest son's varsity cross country team went to Sectionals at Reavis High School in Burbank, Illinois. We were able to get a good parking spot and get there in time to see his whole race. He finished 49th with a time of 16:31.9. He was third on his team. One of his teammates gets to go to State.

Sectionals

My oldest son's varsity cross country team advanced the the sectionals. They tied Benet as the fifth team so both teams get to go. He had a good race on a tough course and finished with a time of 16:48. They had to jump across a creek a couple times, it was muddy and there was a couple hills. The girls team also advanced to the sectionals next week at Reavis High School in Burbank, Illinois. How exciting.

West Aurora Stampede

My oldest son competed in the West Aurora Stampede at Waubansee College in Sugar Grove. He ran varsity and had a good run finishing with a time of 16:53. It was a warm day but not as hot as last year's race that they had to cancel due to the heat.

First Home Cross Country Meet

It was a beautiful morning for our first home cross country meet at O'Brien Park. We got there early at 8:00 a.m. We volunteered to help and Joanna worked the water table and I worked the finish line taking tags from the runners as the finished their races. Our oldest son finished eighth in the boys varsity race with a time of 14:58 for 2.75 miles. He was first on his team. The varsity boys won their open race with 5 top ten finishers and brought home the first place plaque. Everything was over at about 1:00 p.m.

Rainy Race

My oldest son's cross country team was suppose to have a meet at Marmion Academy in Aurora. The bus left the school at 6:30 a.m. and drove all the way out there only to find out the race was cancelled. One of the teams drove two hours to find out it was cancelled. They came back to the school and then went over to their home course at O'Brien Park. They ran a team only race. It was a rainy muddy mess and they all took a team picture running down the sled hill into a giant puddle. We watched from the car.

First Cross Country Meet

My oldest son ran in his first cross country meet of the season at Lyons Township High School. It was a muddy mess and he did well finishing with a time of 16:27 for 4000 meters. There was a freshman runner who came in first with a time of 14:35. We watched the Junior Varsity Boys race and the Varsity Boys and left about 10:00 a.m.

Waubonsee Community College

My oldest son came in 30th out of over 300 runners in his cross country meet at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove. He got another medal to add to his collection. It was a hot morning and a lot of the girl runners were taken away in ambulances and the varsity races were cancelled because of the heat.

Turtlehead Lake

My oldest son came in 32nd place against over 300 runners from over 30 schools at his cross country meet at Turtlehead Lake in Tinley Park. The beginning of the race was wild with all the runners and sounded like a stampede. He got off to a good start and on his first lap around the lake he was in 23rd place. It was a beautiful afternoon and the ran 2.875 miles twice around the lake and got a medal as a top finisher.
